The nights are cooling down, and the leaves are beginning to change here in our home of Charlottesville, Virginia.  Are you or your family excited for the upcoming school year?  At Partner for Mental Health, we work with both individuals and families to support their recovery.  As resilient and hopeful individuals and their families can be, this time of year can be challenging for anyone in their recovery journey as they prepare for significant seasonal changes and shifts.  To take a load off on the stresses of affording school supplies, several community organizations have stepped up:

  • Backpack Buddies is a local non-profit that enlists the help of dozens of youth and adult volunteers to help raise money, collect donations, spread the word, and fill backpacks with school supplies every year.  You can request a backpack or donate through the form at the bottom of their page here.
  • UVA Reuse Office Supply Exchange (ROSE) supply store is a free resource for office supplies, including pens, paper, organization tools, and folders. The main ROSE Program is located at 580 McCormick, the lower level. You can also access it in the recycling building at the end of Leake Drive. The store is open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • The On It Foundation and Laptops 4 Learning are both organizations that provide free computer equipment to those in need.

Mental Health America has also provided a free Mental Health Toolkit for information, tips, and resources for young people, caregivers, and school personnel on protecting youth mental health in a digital world.  You can download it from this link here.
